Making lips look fuller does not necessarily require an invasive technique. Hydration, contouring, gloss and texture choices can already create more dimension and definition while keeping the result natural.
1. Hydrate to visually smooth the surface
When lips are dry, flakes and fine lines catch the light more strongly. A comfortable lip treatment smooths the surface and prepares it better for makeup.
2. Exfoliate only when needed
Very gentle exfoliation can help when healthy lips have a few loose flakes. Do not scrub cracked, irritated or very dry lips.
If you want to do it at home, read our guide to a gentle homemade lip scrub.
3. Slightly redefine the contour
Choose a liner close to your natural lip colour. If you want more volume, go just outside the line at the centre of the mouth, then reconnect with the natural contour toward the corners.
Our lip liner guide explains the technique in more detail.
4. Use gloss to attract light
A touch of gloss at the centre of the upper and lower lips instantly creates more dimension. Keep the edges slightly more matte and concentrate shine where you want the eye to go.
5. Play with contrast
A slightly deeper contour combined with a lighter centre creates a gradient that visually increases volume. Keep the difference subtle if you want a natural finish.
6. Do plumping lip products really work?
Plumping products can temporarily improve how the lips look through hydration, shine and ingredients designed to smooth or create a fuller sensation. They do not create permanent volume and are not equivalent to an injection.
7. What are peptides and SPF doing in lip care?
Peptides are included in some formulas to improve the appearance and comfort of the lips. SPF protects against UV when the product is applied in sufficient quantity and reapplied as directed.

Day+ Plumping Lip Serum SPF30 + Peptides combines 1% MAXI-LIP®, a glossy finish and SPF30 in one formula. Day+ reports clinical measurements after 29 days; those results apply to the finished product and do not mean a permanent transformation in lip volume.
The key to naturally fuller-looking lips
